A comforting dessert combining the warmth of baked apples and cinnamon with a soft, snickerdoodle topping, perfect for any occasion.

  • 4 cups apple slices
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine apple slices with lemon juice, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, cornstarch, and 1/4 tsp salt in a bowl.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into a greased 8-inch baking dish.
  4. Whisk together flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, and 1/4 tsp salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Stir in melted butter, 1/2 cup sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and 2 tbsp milk until just combined.
  6. Dollop spoonfuls of dough over the apple filling.
  7. Mix together 2 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon; sprinkle over the dough.
  8. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  9. Allow to rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Pairs well with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Can be frozen for up to 3 days.
