Delightful baked donuts inspired by classic coffee cake, topped with a luscious vanilla glaze.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. Mix together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  3. Whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  5. Fill the donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool the donuts in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  8. Prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
  9. Glaze the tops of the cooled donuts and let them set for a few minutes.

Notes

For a deeper cinnamon flavor, add an extra sprinkle to the batter. Can substitute the egg with a flax egg for a vegan version.
