A delightful and nostalgic New York Bakery-Style Sicilian Pizza with a thick, fluffy crust topped with rich tomato sauce and gooey cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Dried oregano (to taste)
  • Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by dissolving it with sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine flour and salt in a large bowl, creating a well in the center. Add yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
  6. Punch down the risen dough and spread it into a greased rectangular baking pan.
  7. Let the dough rise again for 30 minutes.
  8. Spread tomato sauce evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  9. Add dried oregano on top to enhance flavor.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  11. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and garnish with fresh basil before slicing and serving.
