A delightful twist on a classic, this Sausage Gravy Puff Pie features a flaky crust enveloping creamy sausage gravy, perfect for family dinners or brunch.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 package frozen puff pastry (2 sheets)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until cooked through.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to combine, cooking for about a minute.
  4. Add the milk gradually, stirring until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Roll out one sheet of puff pastry and place it in a pie dish.
  6. Spoon the sausage gravy into the pastry base and add cheese if desired.
  7. Cover with the second sheet of puff pastry, sealing the edges tightly.
  8. Brush the top with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
