  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Sift together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder in a bowl.
  3. Mix the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar in a separate large bowl.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until just mixed, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
