  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter (for greasing the baking dish)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving, optional)
  • Maple syrup (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and distribute them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring they are all soaked.
  5. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
  6. Remove the dish from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  8. Let it cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup if desired.

Notes
