A delightful treat that combines the flavors of churros in a crunchy toffee form, perfect for sharing during the holidays.

  • 1 sleeve of saltine crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
  3. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly until it comes to a gentle boil.
  5. Allow the mixture to boil for 3–4 minutes without stirring.
  6. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the toffee mixture over the arranged saltines, spreading it evenly.
  8. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5–7 minutes, or until bubbling.
  9. Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
  10. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee.
  11. Combine granulated sugar and ground cinnamon, then sprinkle over the melted chocolate.
  12. Allow the toffee to cool completely before breaking it into pieces.

Notes

Store leftover toffee in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. Enjoy with hot cocoa or coffee.
