A comforting dish of buttery, flaky biscuits topped with creamy sausage gravy.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Mix together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the milk just until moistened.
  5. Knead gently on a floured surface.
  6. Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut into rounds.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned.
  9. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  10. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until thickened.
  11. Serve the biscuits smothered in the gravy.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding cheese to the biscuit dough or spices to the gravy.
