Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g ground beef
  • 400g pasta (such as fettuccine or spaghetti)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (400g) diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil
  • Parmesan cheese for serving
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Sauté the aromatics: In a large pot, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add in the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until they’re soft and translucent.
  2. Brown the beef: Next, add the ground beef to the pot. Cook until nicely browned and breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Build the sauce: Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, along with salt and pepper. Allow to simmer for about 20 minutes.
  4. Cook the pasta: While the sauce simmers, bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  5. Combine and serve: Combine cooked pasta with the beef ragu sauce, tossing together until nicely coated. Serve hot with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
