A heartwarming, cheesy lasagna with layers of ground beef, Italian sausage, and rich marinara sauce, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for the glorious layers of flavor that are about to be created.
  2. Cook the Lasagna Noodles: Boil the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain them and set aside, ready to be layered.
  3. Sauté the Meat and Vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the ground beef, Italian sausage, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook until browned, then drain any excess fat to keep the dish from being greasy.
  4. Simmer the Sauce: Stir in the marinara sauce with the cooked meat mixture and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing all the flavors to meld beautifully together.
  5. Prepare the Ricotta Mixture: In a bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, basil, salt, and pepper. This creaminess will add richness to your lasagna.
  6. Layer the Lasagna: In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread a layer of your tantalizing meat sauce, followed by a layer of noodles, followed by the ricotta mixture, and topped with mozzarella cheese. Repeat these layers, finishing with a layer of meat sauce and topping it off with the remaining mozzarella and a generous sprinkling of Parmesan.
  7. Cover and Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. This helps the lasagna bake evenly without drying out.
  8. Uncover and Finish Baking: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 25 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden, filling your kitchen with an irresistible fragrance.
  9. Cool and Serve: Let the lasagna cool for 15 minutes; this will allow it to set and make slicing easier. Finally, serve up generous portions and enjoy!
