A comforting dessert that transforms leftover bread into a rich and indulgent treat with the flavors of bourbon and pecans.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cubed day-old bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, bourbon, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Gently fold in the cubed day-old bread and chopped pecans into the egg mixture.
  4. Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  5. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use stale bread for the best texture. This dish can be made in advance; prepare it a day before and bake right before serving.
