A flavorful twist on the classic Char Siu Chicken, featuring succulent marinaded chicken thighs that caramelize beautifully in the oven.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese rice wine (Shaoxing wine)
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice wine, five-spice powder, minced garlic, and food coloring (if using) in a bowl to create the marinade.
  2. Add chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Line a baking sheet with foil and place a rack on top.
  5. Arrange marinated chicken thighs on the rack, skin side up, and pour the remaining marinade over them.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, brushing with additional marinade halfway through, until cooked through and caramelized.
  7. Let the chicken rest for a few minutes, then slice and serve garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider marinating the chicken overnight. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness (165°F/74°C).
