Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.25 cups butter (melted)
  • 1.5 cups quick oats
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups brown sugar
  • 0.25 cups butter (melted for caramel)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (for caramel)
  • 0.25 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons flour (for caramel)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter by heating it in a microwave-safe container for approximately 1 to 2 minutes.
  2. Mix the liquefied butter with the oats, flour, and 1.5 cups brown sugar until the texture is both sticky and crumbly.
  3. Prepare a 9×13 inch baking pan by greasing it and firmly pressing two-thirds of your oat mixture into the bottom.
  4. Bake the base for 10 minutes in an oven preheated to 325°F (163°C), then let it rest briefly.
  5. Make the caramel by melting the remaining butter and whisking in the 1 cup brown sugar until glossy.
  6. Whisk in the milk, vanilla, and the 2 tablespoons flour, stirring continuously for a velvety caramel consistency.
  7. Simmer the caramel to a light boil for 3 minutes while stirring.
  8. Pour the hot caramel filling evenly over the pre-baked crust.
  9. Crumble the leftover oat mixture over the caramel layer.
  10. Bake again at 300°F (149°C) for 20 more minutes.
  11. Cool entirely before slicing into bars.
